Ierapetra, Crete

Ierapetra, Crete

Ierapetra Crete
35 Kms from Agios Nikolaos lies Ierapetra. Ierapetra is Europes southernmost town, full of monuments preserved up to our times, revealing the area's long history. Admire the Kales fortress at the port's entrance, which testifies to the Venetians' passing from the area, the house of Napoleon, where according to tradition, Bonaparte was hosted in 1978, the mosque in the old town (Kato Meria), which bears an inscription from the Quarn on a marble slab at its entrance, and finally the archeological museum, which is housed in a 1889 building. Here one can find clay sarcophagi, sculptures and the beautiful statue of goddess Demeter.
